There are a limited number of internet cafes in the islands’ capitals and as a guideline cost around 50 CVesc for 10 minutes. Costs may vary and cafes are often very busy so it may be advisable to pre-book. Some hotels may have televisions that receive English-speaking satellite channels.
Mobile Phones
Some UK mobile phones work in Cape Verde others do not depending on your provider and whether you have a contract or pay as you go phone, so it is best to check with your UK provider prior to your trip. For those using UK mobiles on the islands, please be warned that this can be very expensive. Incoming calls from the UK can be very expensive and can cost up to £10 if you answer it. Sending texts to the UK cost approximately 49p each. For accurate rates please ask your UK provider.
You can buy a local pre-paid SIM card for your phone on arrival in Cape Verde for €20 including calls. You will be provided with a local number but you cannot send texts to UK mobiles from this so it is only worth buying if you intend to make local calls during your trip.
