After 15 years away from the studios, Cape Verdean singer Titina Rodrigues is back with her new CD Cruel Destino which will soon be released in Cape Verde.
Currently based in Portugal, the singer told A Semana that it would "make [her] almost inexplicably happy to take [her] work back home to [her] people".
Cruel Destino is Abertina "Titina" Rodrigues Almeida's second album, a 10-track collection of classic morna material, which was recorded in Lisbon, Portugal.
Like famous Cesaria Evora and Mayra Andrade, Titina's heart is turned towards the Cape Verdean islands as she expresses her need to come back to her homeland through mournful songs of love called mornas.
Titina's debut album Titina Canta B.Leza was first released in 1993 and is another vibrant example of the islands' soulful folk music.
The Cape Verdean diva also explained that she would like people to "listen to [Cruel Destino] as if it were [her] last album, even if it turns out not to be".
